Here am i, today, just southwest of eugene, oregon, yet dense with douglas fir, little traffic, enhermited. attending to a waning form--my body’s needs and residual, distilled desires. one is wanting to be useful at least to a small group of friends, individuals with resonance, sons, folks intent on living righteous lives.
My father and mother both new york, jewish descendant irreligious doctors. for me, ideal dna depositors. and i’m sure i (mis) quote them the most. selah! true i was raised in Pleasantville, NY. unconscious & innocent. the proverbial ‘empty vessel’ to be filled with the ‘60’s love ethos. Very anti-vietnam; saw some action in alabama in ‘65; got drafted in ‘66 for protesting the draft exemption exam; but gay guys got eliminated from the army--in them days.
Richard Alpert (aka ram das) lectured at haverford college my senior year, left us with 2000 hits of lysergic acid. That helped. Didn’t want to miss san francisco summer of ‘67. after which, year of dues in nyc lower east side-- hippies, drugs, ginsburg and miles, street basketball, wrote a novel. i nearly forgot the sex exploration syndrome!
Propitiously, i hit paris in early ‘69 to pick up tail end of student riots, flying cobblestones, literary revolutionary dreams a la francais. back to the states to find ‘the woman’-- and with her went slowly, diseasedly overland from luxembourg to india. hard not to love elephants!
With gravity of karmic dowsing rod moved to oregon--make babies and milk goats and live (semi) harmoniously with small group of others on 300 acres of paradise. Sweet!
KOTEEN.ORG is eclectic collection of my products. Kind of first choice reifications--mental constructions made material, art. My doctor parents would whisper to each other in my presence: "he thinks he’s an artist?" Not represented here are my numerous performance pieces. As the creator & inhabitor of these works, i’ve found them to be finitely useful in delving into life’s delights and liabilities. Which is primary intention of my work--that you too may benefit from their simplicity, playfulness, exotic propositions and language curiosity.
